***Our second home challenge menu is due this Friday. My email is aforino@reyn.org if you need to email me pictures or videos***
Reading: This week we started books in reading groups! We are going to practice recounting each chapter and identifying character traits for each character. We are also continuing to work on recounting fables. We will start Achieve3000 this week by taking the pretests to determine the reading level the students will start with. Acheive3000 is the main online tool we will use this year. It has weekly current event nonfiction articles. The students will use these articles to practice comprehension, gain new vocabulary, and practice typing responses to text. At this time we are using Achieve3000 at school, but feel free to have your students get on it at home for extra practice!
Writing: This week we are working on improving our persuasive paragraphs. We did a guided paragraph with me and added persuasive sentence starters (In my opinion....One reason....Another reason... etc). These sentence starters help the reader get the message more clearly and help our paragraphs flow.
Science/Social Studies: This week we are focusing on Constitution Day as it is September 17th. We will be working on a "Freedom Quilt" design challenge. The students will learn about our constitution and split into groups. Each group will be given a question about the constitution. The groups will research the answer to their question and design a quilt square (out of cardstock) with key words, symbols, and phrases to answer their question with art. The quilt squares will eventually all be put together to make a Freedom Quilt in the hallway.
Grammar: We will be reviewing verbs
